Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is my very first Android / Samsung phone and I absolutely did not regret jumping ship from using Apple. However ever since the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S4, I’ve been anticipating it for quite awhile now and hoping that it’ll be a decent phone alongside my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. So last weekend, it was Malaysia’s launch of the long awaited Samsung Galaxy S4. It was no ordinary single launch event, but they had tour bus going around places to have their launch ceremony event with different telco providers.

They started off the morning by stopping at Sunway Pyramid. There was a whole entourage of circus clowns, dance performers, cheerleaders, etc during the launch, it’s as if there was a Samsung Fun Fair Festival kinda thing going around.

Next on, the whole troupes adjourned to The Gardens, Times Square, as well as Low Yat Plaza as the final destination.

Love the colorful Samsung official phone covers too! Which is your favourite color?

Samsung will make available the Galaxy S4 via all leading operators in the country namely Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile, as well as Samsung Mobile Brand Shops. The retail price for the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be RM2,199 in stores.
Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S4 to try out all the new features that my current phone doesn’t have.
S Health seems pretty interesting as I kinda need to bulk up and keep track of my calories intake daily as well as exercising.

Eraser shot on S4 camera is also one of the things that’s missing from my current Note2. I’m sure it comes pretty handy when I can just photoshop off an unwanted person/object in the background straight from the phone and post it on Instagram!
Dual camera capture is also one of the feature that’s quite convenient for ‘behind the scenes’ people like me. I’m always behind the camera, thus I can now be IN the shot with Samsung’s new dual camera recording feature!

Apart from that, Smart Scroll / Smart Pause also comes in handy when reading my favourite blogs/e-books as well as watching Youtube video.

Will Samsung Malaysia provide me a unit to try? Maybe, hopefully soon?

4Minute 1st Look Magazine from YeinJee's Asian Journal

My friend Lee Hom was invited to give a talk at Oxford University on April 22nd which was recently. He introduced the students in attendance to Chinese pop music followed by the playing of a mix-tape which he prepared. It contained 10 different songs by various Chinese pop singers, including… Jay Chou.
I was pleasantly surprised!
I wonder if Lee Hom is aware, but back in my secondary school days, there used to be this Jay Chou vs. Lee Hom argument between fans. It wasn’t anything malicious, but we fans took our stand to heart as if saying my father is better than your father. It was personal.
But seeing that Lee Hom presented one of Jay’s songs at Oxford, perhaps that childish ego-centrism was only prevalent among teenage fans like us. Hahaha. Those were the days.
No transcript from the talk was released but a photograph of Lee Hom leading the audience on a 1 minute silent tribute for victims of the Sichuan Earthquake. I stole the photo from his Facebook and put it here because he looked smart.
Seeing this photo reminds me of my days studying for a full cert music diploma in college when I was eighteen. I was hoping against all hopes that my residual hearing will remain and studied music for as long as I could. Lee Hom’s talk reminds me of one class in specific – Music Appreciation. We listened to, and critically analysed music by various composers from pre-baroque era to the 21st century. (I suppose that’s partly where I learned to understand Lee Hom’s compositions critically).
We also studied the lives of the great composers such as Bach, Handel and Beethoven. Understanding their lives from our textbook made a difference in the way we appreciate their music, Because, most of the time, composers, and writers even, produce great music in the face of adversity. Their tough life experiences enrich their works.
Have you noticed that Beethoven’s compositions after he lost his hearing contain strong, frustrated emotions?
I sincerely believe that if Lee Hom is able to share his life story – either his career pathway alone or with his personal life story embedded – it will be a great inspiration to thousands, especially the youths who aspire to be musicians like him. I am under no illusion that Lee Hom had it easy, even today. Whatever personal and social challenges that he might have faced are the things that brought him to where he is now. It will be a great source of comfort and inspiration to those who are facing challenges in their music studies and aspiration – and I know what they are too well.
It will also indirectly generate interest for Chinese pop music, just as how students have been inspired to study Psychology from attending my talks.
When Lee Hom first wrote about me, I learned from the comments received that his fan base includes those living in non-Asian, non-Chinese speaking regions of this earth. There are people who don’t understand a single Chinese word who listen to his songs. But the number of fans in this group is probably very small in comparison to that of those who can understand Chinese.
Can you imagine how this non-Chinese speaking group might grow if the world gets to know Lee Hom’s life story? For me, I find it intriguing that an American born and bred child of Chinese descendent would take an interest in his Chinese roots and culture so much so that he made it his career goal – to popularize traditional Chinese music in the world. We all know that second and third generation Chinese descendants born in America often feel out of place, they sometimes reject their Chinese cultural identity in order to fit in, often to the point of self-denial and bitterness.
That could be a story lead. What makes Lee Hom different? What makes Lee Hom embrace his Asian roots and want to turn it into a musical celebration?
It will be truly inspirational of Lee Hom when he can sincerely share his heart – both the good and the bad life experiences. Because, self-disclosure endears.
So.. few months back I went dinner with Bernie and Rita at Cafe La Boca at Pavilion.

It was a nice place. Dining there reminds me of some restaurants I been to in Europe.

Hello Bernie

They ran out of Hoegaarden or something. Forgot

Awesome pizza

Hello Rita

OK so after dinner, we went up to Tokyo Street to meet up with Wind.

We talk about our favorite period of our school days – recess! What did you do and what did you eat. Tell us your favorite food and activities.

I am still here at the NIH Clinical Center and not back in Malaysia yet, because I have been down with Pneumonia.
It all started when I complained of a new difficulty in swallowing food after surgery. My tongue was swollen while my body temperature was elevated, so I was taken to see Beth – the speech therapist – who observed me swallow food through an X-Ray machine. She put me on a pureed food diet and gave me a special cup that emits 5cc sips. She looked concerned.
Next, was a chest X-RAY which showed something in my lungs. It looked like I was having a serious lung infection, so people from Infectious Diseases came to see me in the ward after that.
The following day, I had a CT scan of the chest done which revealed the cause of my Pneumonia – food aspiration. Food had accidentally entered the wrong pipe and into my lungs, causing Pneumonia.
We started treatment for Pneumonia very earlier on – when I complained of eating difficulty, my body temperature was elevated and nurses heard something unusual in my lungs through the stethoscope. We started treatment the moment a possible Pneumonia was suspected. I have been receiving continuous antibiotics plus normal saline infusion intravenuously, while my body breaks down the inhaled food by itself. At the time of writing this, nurses say that my lungs sound clear, but taking deep breaths still hurt me.
More tests and consultations are in store. We are collecting sputum samples and I will be seeing the lung doctor soon.
The past week had been arduous on my physical body. Who would know that recovery from Pneumonia could be so tough? I slept more than half the time, my whole body would ache, I needed pain killers and anti-nausea medications. My temperature soared now and then.
By the way, inhaling food due not necessarily cause Pneumonia, and there are other causes of Pneumonia.
My flights that were supposed to depart last Saturday were cancelled because I was and still not well enough to travel, and I want to find out the cause of the Pneumonia. We know that, this time, it was because I inhaled food. But I also have a chronic breathing difficulty.
Someone from Infectious Diseases thinks that the case of food entering my lungs might be due to a pre-existing problem which was made worse by the surgery breathing tube, but he wasn’t sure. This is why I need to see the Lung doctor.
UPDATE
SUN 28 April: i have just been placed under contact isolation. Anyone who comes into my room must wear a yellow coat and gloves. Too bad I can’t hear or they may just shout what they want to say from the door.
SUN 28 April, evening: Contact Isolation lifted. No infection was found in my blood, urine, stool, and sputum samples.
MON 29 Aprik: Did some breathing tests today. The pulmonologist evaluated the results, as well as the CT scan, Chest X-Ray, my condition and medical history. In a nutshell, she is in the opinion that I have been experiencing food aspiration for a long time over the last few years. It caused me to have breathing difficulty which worsened gradually, weakening my lungs.
Since my swallowing nerve was impaired by a brain tumor many years ago – my left vocal cord paralyzed and left palate immobilized – she will speak to my neurosurgeon and send me to the ENT to see if we can fix the structures in my throat to prevent future food aspiration from happening.
My lungs are still on the recovery from pneumonia. I am feeling lethargic and tired from the pneumonia, and nauseous from the antibiotics infusion. The lower portion of my lungs are still inflammed.
I will be doing more tests in the next few days.

But i know how the drill is about buying rice, whether brown or white. We go to Tesco, or whichever hypermarket having a sale, but most of the time it was Tesco. We’d go to the rice aisle, pick the brand on sale from the choice of the few we usually buy from. If it was white rice, it was most of the time Dragon Pearl. Nowadays with brown rice, it is usually ecoBrown.
Since our rate of consumption is slow, we go for the 5kg. Back in those days my kids were small and we didn’t have a bathroom scale, i’d estimate my children’s weight in comparison to the bag of 5kg rice (a few years ago, i redeemed a bathroom scale from Bonuslink).
But one day, stuck in the traffic jam, it occured to me that wasn’t how we bought rice when we were small.
Back then, my mom bought rice from the sundry shop near my house. Sundry shops sold, um, all and sundry in those days – stationery, snacks, toys, books, and even some hardware. Outside the shop, in a large gunny sack sitting on the floor was a mound of rice. It was usually next to other gunny sacks containing dried chillies, onions and other grains we never bought.
If you wanted to buy rice, the shopkeeper, usually an old thin guy wearing grey or khaki belted shorts and a white singlet (sometimes rolled up to his torso, depending on how old he was), would open up a paper bag. This paper bag was usually made out of brown paper or newspaper, glued at the bottom with starch made from rice. It’s a miracle how starch can hold such a heavy load.
The shopkeeper would ask u how much u wanted, you’d say the price, or the weight, like 2 katis. What a kati? Dunno, but its 16 tahils. If you were Cantonese you’d say ‘kun’, rhymes with ‘bun’. Then shopkeeper would used a metal scoop and dished the rice from the sack to the paper bag. There was no grade to the rice, no Super AA or Jasmine white rice or any of that. We only knew it came from Thailand.
Then you would pay the shopkeeper and he’d seal the bag of rice. Then you would carefully carry the bag of rice home, to eat for the next few weeks.
Writing this evokes a lot of memories about rice and its link to Chinese society the world over. Rice symbolises livelihood, rezeki. I remember old Hong Kong period dramas that show a poor boy tripping and spilling a bag of rice on the ground meant the greatest tragedy.

How things have advanced in the translation world. Are you an avid user of Google Translate on your mobile? I am, and I find it especially useful in the clinic where I see patients who speak in languages other than those I am comfortable in. While the audio recognition of various languages still has considerable room for improvement, I marvel at the text translate features whereby you snap a picture and you can highlight text in the image and the app will recognise the text and translate it for you (currently only in the Android version, not iOS). Patients sometimes hand me a lab report in a language I can’t read and this is where this will come in very handy.
I wait for the day when translation is in realtime. This cool translation demo of a real time translation using Microsoft technology (via the Verge) brings us a step closer to the fabled Star Trek Universal Translator!
Rick Rashid has a lot on his plate. As the chief research officer at Microsoft Research, the division he founded in 1991, Rashid is charged with overseeing some of Microsoft’s most daring and diverse projects. His vast network of researchers pioneered the motion-sensing technology behind the Kinect, and have since explored everything from augmented reality to wearable technologies. They’re even working on an interactive contact lens display that would be powered by a user’s body heat.
But the company’s most groundbreaking project may be one of its least flashy. Late last year, Rashid demonstrated a new technology that combines speech recognition with voice translation, converting a speaker’s words into a different language in real time. During the demonstration, held at an event in China, Microsoft’s software transcribed Rashid’s words into Mandarin script almost instantly, before voicing them a few seconds later — in his own voice.

Manifesto BN 2008 ada 7 kategori.
1. Mengurangkan indeks jenayah negara

Semalam saya hilang helmet motor. Seperti saya katakan confirm orang malas nak report. Nak kena pergi balai satu hal, nanti kena saman tak pakai helmet pula. Dah report bukan ada tindakan pun.
Keputusan NH: Janji DICAPATI kerana data diberikan kurang tepat.
2. Menangani isu pendatang asing tanpa izin
2.a. Menggunakan PATI untuk undi
2.b. Mengambil pekerjaan am, buruh dan semua low level jobs.
Kita menggunakan tenaga asing kerana ianya sangat murah. Akibatnya, perkhidmatan yang diberikan tidak memuaskan. Tengok saja kedai mamak, kena cakap 2 kali baru paham.
Keputusan NH: Janji DICAPATI.
Keselamatan adalah perkara serius. Lebih serius lagi dari BlogSerius kerana tanpa keselamatan tiadalah ekonomi, hak asasi manusia, kebebasan beragama, kemajuan, pendidikan, kerajaan dan paling penting, kebahagian.
ps: NH demam skit hari ni. Lambat keluar post.

It’s been a busy month for me, with the run up to a national scientific meeting, talks to prepare and on top of that some website housekeeping to attend to. One of the major projects I’ve been doing is an overhaul of one of my other main blogs, the Malaysian Medical Resources, which required trimming of years of outdated blog posts and updating numerous links. One final touch is of course to make the site Mobile Friendly – and for that I relied on WPTouch Pro which also powers the mobile view of this site.
One of my upcoming talks is supposed to be on IT and how it benefits Haematologists – a grand opportunity for me to reflect on the fantastic amount of progress we’ve seen the past ten years. Devices are getting so much more powerful, broadband is getting faster and with the advent of 4G/LTE we are now seeing very fast wireless connections. At the same time it was also sad to reflect on the demise of webOS (now replaced by openwebOS which really hasn’t taken off yet) and I would think the user base is dwindling. I still get some feedback on some of my old webOS software like BeeNews but I am afraid I can’t support these anymore. I still have my Pre3 smartphone but it is now sitting in a drawer, serving as a backup phone. While a webOS phone is a great device, it simply does not have the key apps which a mobile doctor needs e.g. Epocrates, Uptodate Lexidrugs and not to mention the general utility apps which have become quite essential e.g. Whatsapp, Handbase etc.
At this point it’s sad but I think we can finally lay webOS to rest. It’s been a fantastic journey Palm/HP. Thanks for the ride.

First LIKE Facebook Celcom First dan kemudian hantar pose anda yang menyerupai Usain Bolt.

PART 1: Hello Lone Pine Penang!
PART 2: Room Lobby Trishaw At Lone Pine Penang
So after settling down, we went for a dip at the pool!

This was how it looked like. So awesome

See the tent? A couple was about to have their wedding dinner that night. Apparently, many couples come here for wedding photoshoot and dinners.

Iz me!

Iz me and mamapOp!

After playing water, we walked out to check out the shops around the hotel.

Perlahan-lahan kayuh.

Finally, I had the arm surgery done last Friday here at the U.S. National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. In surgery, Dr. Asthagiri found there were four tumors in total as compared to two. These four tumors grew in a straight line along the Radial nerve. They were located beneath a muscle – that’s why it was hard to see how many tumors there were exactly via MRI.
Dr. Asthagiri removed three of the tumors including the largest one that we could easily see in the photograph of my previous post. He left the last, tiny one behind because it involves a nerve vital to my arm function. He didn’t want to take the risk since it’s still tiny.
My arm, wrist and fingers are all in good working condition after surgery. My arm’s still bandaged, as you can see in the above photograph.
My tongue’s temporary swollen due to the oxygen tube placed into my mouth during surgery, so eating’s a challenge for the time being. Lucky me, the In-patient Food Service has an extensive menu to select my food from.
I have also been put on IV drips since last Friday or Saturday. When my nurse took my vitals, she found that my liver’s blood volume was too low and this drip is supposed to help rectify that. It seems to be working.
This surgery proved to be more major than I had previously anticipated. I was still weak by Sunday, so I had to change my return flight. It was supposed to be on Sunday, 21st April. I changed it on Saturday, 27th April. With the extended stay, we can allow my arm and tongue to recover more and normalize my liver’s blood volume more, before sending me home.
The bad news is that I have to give the Hear Us Out 10 conference a miss. I was supposed to give a talk at the Global Issues Conference this Saturday. The theme’s going to be “Pushing The Limits” which I thought would be a good opportunity to talk about my expansion from Heart4Hope – a personal fundraising campaign, to A Celebration of Life – a public, charitable foundation. I was really looking forward to the conference.
Oh well, I suppose we have to give and take sometimes.
If you would like to send me cards or letters at the hospital, you may mail them to:
I will be leaving this place on 27th April 2013.
Finally, Celcom 4G LTE service launch on 23 April 2013 with data only plan but it has wider network coverage area than its competitor - Maxis 4G LTE.

Wow.

The hype 4 The Next Galaxy has been spreading across town, nation and even the world. You know it, everyone’s anticipating it; touted The Next Big Thing, I believe the upcoming Samsung flagship phone – Samsung Galaxy S4 will penetrate the market with multiple folds worldwide.
The local newspapers started giving some ‘pre-teaser’ of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 already. And last weekend I managed to bump into a few troupes of talented musician choir playing in front of malls, attracting various public into pre-teasing them The Next Galaxy.
They were going around town last Friday and Saturday showcasing their spectacular choir performances and it caught many attention from the public passerby.
Enough of the pre-teaser, I personally can’t wait to get my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The Next Big Thing will be launched this week and as a existing Samsung mobile user, I’m looking forward to see how it compares to my Samsung Galaxy Note II. Probably… I might just do another video review on Samsung Galaxy S4? Wait, if you’ve not checked out my previous Samsung Galaxy S3 video, watch it here:
Will bring in more updates to you soon! Stay tuned
Do you really know what’s going on in the world? Are you prepared to embrace globalization? Adam Shepard hopes his story will inspire young people to get out and arm themselves with a broader perspective.
By the time he was 30, the North Carolina man had already completed goals most people wait a lifetime to pursue.
From late 2011 to late 2012, spending just US$19,420.68, less than it would have cost him to stay at home, Shepard visited seventeen countries on four continents and lived some amazing adventures.
“It’s interesting to me,” he says, “that in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, it’s normal for people to pack a bag, buy a plane ticket, and get ‘Out There.’ In the U.S., though, we live with this very stiff paradigm—graduate college, work, find a spouse, make babies, work some more, retire—which can be a great existence, but we leave little room to load up a backpack and dip into various cultures, to see places, to really develop our own identity.”
His journey began in “the other Antigua”—Antigua, Guatemala—where Shepard spent a month brushing up on his Spanish and traveling on the “chicken bus.” During his two months in Honduras, he served with an organization that helps improve the lives of poor children; in Nicaragua, he dug wells to install pumps for clean water and then stepped into the ring to face a savage bull; in Thailand, he rode an elephant and cut his hair into a mullet; in Australia, he hugged a koala, contemplated the present-day treatment of the Aborigines, and mustered cattle; in Poland, he visited Auschwitz; in Slovakia, he bungee jumped off a bridge; and in the Philippines, he went wakeboarding among Boracay’s craggy inlets and then made love to Ivana on the second most beautiful beach in the world.

His yearlong journey, which took two years to save for, was a spirited blend of leisure, volunteerism, and enrichment. He read 71 books, including ten classics and one—slowly—in Spanish. “If you can lend a hand to someone, educate yourself about the world, and sandwich that around extraordinary moments that get your blood pumping, that’s a pretty full year,” Shepard writes.
One Year Lived is the compelling and transparent account of his experiences abroad.
The trip comes just three years after he made US national headlines for taking a year to test the viability of the American Dream. With just $25 in his pocket, he boarded a train and headed to Charleston, SC. He lived in a homeless shelter for 70 days and took odd jobs until finding a full-time job as a mover, eventually earning enough money to buy a pickup truck and a furnished apartment. After the resulting book, Scratch Beginnings, was released by HarperCollins in 2008, Shepard appeared on the Today Show, CNN, FOX News, 20/20, and NPR. He was also interviewed by Atlantic Monthly, the New York Post, Christian Science Monitor, and over 140 radio programs.
“Maybe, maybe not,” he says, “though that’s not really the point. I’m just concerned that some of us want life to be cushy and regimented, but that’s not how we can create a lasting impact on our lives or the lives around us. There’s only so much you can learn in the classroom. Sometimes you have to get out there to experience it, to touch it, to feel it, to see it for yourself. And I’m saying that if we are smart with how we save our money and smart about how we spend it, we can live some pretty amazing experiences.”
One Year Lived will be available on April 22nd in paperback, as an audio book, and in a variety of eBook formats. To request an interview with Adam Shepard on or after publication, contact Rachel M. Anderson with RMA Publicity at 952-240-2513 or rachel@rmapublicity.com.
Adam is so kind to actually giveaway the PDF copy of “One Year Lived”. You can download it here, FOC!
By the way, I’ll be hosting a webinar session featuring Adam Shepard to share with his experience of travelling the world for less that the cost of staying home. Register for your free spot here!

Acer Liquid C1 is the first smartphone in Malaysia powered by Intel Atom processor (Z2420 "Lexington"). It is a mid-range smartphoen with retail price RM999 (~USD329). I was curious about "Intel Inside" smartphone, thus I loaned a unit of Acer Liquid C1 for this blog review. Does Intel Inside make the smartphone fly? Are Android apps compatible? Is it worth to buy? Read on for my review to find out.

Kita semua tahu tentang AKUJANJI Manifesto oleh BN. Mana tak nya, semua media dia pukal iklan. Tetapi, adakah BN benar-benar tunaikan janji?
Mungkinkah melalui BR1M? Tetapi barang masih lagi naik. Harga ayam pada tahun 2008, RM 5.30 per kg. Tahun 2013, RM 7.40 per kg. Kenaikan sebanyak 40% dalam masa 5 tahun. Secara purata 8% kenaikan setiap tahun. Dan tahukah anda, harga ayam bukan lagi barangan harga kawalan sejak 2008? Tak apa, saya bukan suka makan ayam pon.
Cuba kita lihat sekeliling kita, harga barang naik terlalu tinggi saban hari. Beras 2008, RM 16.50 bagi 10kg. Pada 2013, RM 36 bagi setiap 10kg. Roti Gardenia pon naik, dulu RM 1.90 sekarang RM 2.40.
Keputusan NH: Janji DICAPATI kerana harga barang terus meningkat dan golongan pertengahan terus tertindas.
Part hartanah ni aku dah malas sikit, sebab perlukan pemahaman tentang GDV. Ini akan meng-over-drive-kan otak.
Keputusan NH: Janji ATAS PAGAR
Sepanjang tempoh 5 tahun dibawah pemerintahan BN
Apa pendapat korang?
